TheMorning have an exclusive interview with Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC’s attacking midfielder, Ugochukwo Obi, about his life and football career in Cambodia. Want to know the detail? Read the following.


-TheMorning: What was your first impression after landing in the Kingdom of Cambodia?
-Ugochukwo Obi: My first impression was how I was taking care [was being taken care of] of by people. Even though I don’t want to stay, their care [has] made me feel like home.
-TheMorning: What are the places in Cambodia you have visited since your arrival?
-Ugochukwo Obi: I have visited Shihanouk Ville, Siem Reap, Battambang, Takeo, Pailin near the border of Thailand.
-TheMorning: Have you tasted Khmer Foods yet? If you have, what do you think about the foods? How often do you eat Khmer foods?
-Ugochukwo Obi: Yes, I have tasted Khmer food, and it’s very good. But I don’t like the ones with sugar. I barely eat it once in a while.
-TheMorning: Do you usually cook or eat out?
-Ugochukwo Obi: Yes, I always cook at home, but when I am tired, I can’t cook. So that’s the result of going to get food outside.
-TheMorning: Where in Phnom Penh do you usually hang out in your free time?
-Ugochukwo Obi: I sometimes go to a quiet bar or a club with a lot of people (Khmer and foreigners).
-TheMorning: What do you think about the weather in Cambodia? Have you been accustomed with it yet?
-Ugochukwo Obi: The weather in Cambodia, I will say it suits me, but I dislike when it’s too hot. The hot period makes me feel very hot and upset, but I like it what it is warm and raining.
-TheMorning: Can you speak any Khmer words now?
-Ugochukwo Obi: Yes, I can speak some Khmer words.
-TheMorning: What is the most challenging in your football career?
-Ugochukwo Obi: The most challenging part in my football career was when I was working very hard to [reach] the top, but I kept falling. But I never give up until where I am now. Hard Work Pays!
-TheMorning: If you were able to be one of the most famous footballers in the world? Who would you choose yourself to be?
-Ugochukwo Obi: I would love to be Gennaro Gattuso because he fights like a lion on the pitch but very gentleman outside the pitch.
-TheMorning: Do you think your club [Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC] can win the league title this season?
-Ugochukwo Obi: The battle is getting tougher, but Yes my team must win the trophy this season because I believe in my coach and my teammates with the whole crew of Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC.
