In Cambodia, we have three major tournaments: Metfone Cambodian League, Cambodian League 2, and Hun Sen Cup (FA Cup).

1-Metfone Cambodian League

Metfone Cambodian League, Cambodia’s top flight, consists of 12 clubs including Boeung Ket FC, Ministry of National Defense FC, Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC, Phnom Penh Crown FC, Nagaworld FC, Cambodian Tiger FC, G.C National Police FC, Asia Euro United FC, Western Phnom Penh FC, CMAC United FC, Electricite du Cambodge FC, and Kirivong Soksen Chey FC. Each club will need to play home and away matches, and the club that doesn’t have their own stadium will use National Olympic Stadium or Army Stadium to play their home matches.

Each team can register 5 foreign players in their squad for Metfone Cambodian League, but at least one of those foreign players must be Asian. The team can field 4 foreign players in their lines up for each match, but at least one of them must also be Asian (3+1).

Play-off system has been applied into Metfone Cambodian League 2017, and only the teams in the Top 4 have a chance to clinch the league title. The team that finishes fourth after the regular league matches (22 matches) will play the third place, and the winner will face the second in the semi-final. The winner of the semi-final will take on the league leader (first place) to decide who will be the champions of Cambodia. The two teams that finish at the bottom and eleventh will be relegated to Cambodian League 2.

The champions of Metfone Cambodian League will also be able to play in AFC Cup play-off qualifiers, the second tier of Asian football.

2-Cambodian League 2

Cambodian League 2 consists of 8 teams such as Visakha FC, National Defense Ministry Youth FC, Kampong Cham FC, Svay Rieng FC, National Football Academy FC, Soltilo Angkor FC, Kampong Chhnang FC, and Kampong Speu FC. Each team will need to play home and away matches, and the team that earns the most points after the regular league matches will be the champions. The champions and runners-up will be promoted to Metfone Cambodian League. Last season, Electricite du Cambodge FC and Kirivong Soksen Chey FC were the champions and the runners-up and have gained promotion to play in Metfone Cambodian League this season (2017).

The teams in Cambodian League 2 can use only local players as the vision of the tournament is to promote and give a chance to the local talents.

3-Hun Sen Cup

Hun Sen Cup, established in 2007, is a cup tournament in Cambodia and consists of many teams from Metfone Cambodian League, Cambodian League 2, and other areas, and only local players are eligible to play.
