Sum Vanna reflects on his team’s performance after finishing the first round of the season
Western Phnom Penh FC are now ninth in the current league table with three wins, three draws, and five losses, and they are four points ahead of the relegation spot.
There are twelve clubs in Metfone Cambodian League this season, but Sum Vanna, the head coach of Western Phnom Penh FC, regarded five clubs that are hard to beat as they have a lot of good players and also experienced head coach.
Coach Sum Vanna told TheMorning via Messenger: “The hardest teams that we played against are Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC, Ministry of National Defense FC, Nagaworld FC, Boeung Ket FC, and G.C National Police FC as they have a lot of good players who have a wide range of experience in MCL, and they are also the National Team players. Plus, they have experienced head coach--these have made them better teams than us.”
Coach Sum Vanna was frustrated as his sides lost to the opponents he thought they could win three points from, which could be due to many factors including the match officials.
Coach Sum Vanna told TheMorning via Messenger: “We also lost to the teams that we thought we could beat. CMAC United FC, Electricite du Cambodge FC, Asia Euro United FC, and Cambodian Tiger FC are the teams that have similar ability to us, and we also planned to win 3 points from them, but we couldn’t. I think it could be due to our players’ energy, training preparation, match preparation, pitch, and the referees’ team. We lost to Electricite du Cambodge FC and Cambodian Tiger FC, but the referee should have shown fairness, unbiasedness, and because of those things we lost 11 points from 4 matches.”
Western Phnom Penh FC’s biggest win in the first round of the season is a 3-1 victory over the six-time champions of Cambodian League away from home on 08 April 2017.
Can Coach Sum Vanna’s Western Phnom Penh FC do better in the second round of Metfone Cambodian League 2017? How high do you think they will finish the league?
