Leonardo Vitorino on the lack of local strikers in Cambodian League
Most of the clubs in Cambodian League especially powerhouse ones, the likes of Phnom Penh Crown FC, Nagaworld FC, Boeung Ket FC, Ministry of National Defense FC, and Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC, have used foreign strikers to boost their attack. As such, this seems to resist the development of the local talents as they don’t get enough chances to prove their talent.
Can the employment of foreign strikers be the obstacles in the development of Cambodian strikers?
Leonardo Vitorino, the head coach of Cambodia National Team, is likely to agree to that.
Leonardo Vitorino told TheMorning via Messenger: “Sure, it’s difficult as a lot of clubs are without local players in the attack.”
However, the Brazilian has revealed that he and his coaching staff have a long-term project with FFC to improve the new local talents, and the plans will also be benefit to players in the provinces.
Leonardo Vitorino told TheMorning via Messenger: “But we are here to work a long term, so we are working together with the Federation [FFC] to improve new players. We have a plan to develop new players in the provinces also.”
“I believe in the future Cambodia will have a lot of new talented players,” he added.
The former Lanexang United FC’s head coach has also explained that the clubs that don’t have their own academy will find it hard to be capable enough to compete in the Asian level and insisted that the clubs in the C-league are recently much relied on foreign players.
Leonardo Vitorino told TheMorning via Messenger: “I think the team who don’t create their academy will not be in the top level in Asia. The teams need to create their own facilities and academy to form new players to expend less in the future with foreign players. Today teams depend too much on foreign players.”
